We connect landscape researchers, planners and other people, who are interested in a good cooperation between man and environment. Our association supports landscape research, its application in practice and communikation between all affected actors.
The international organization was founded in 1982 in Piestany (Slovakia), in order to promote the transdisciplinary research and the exchange of experiences in the field of the landscape ecology as the scientific basis for landscape planning and environmental management. It is aspired to a close contact between nature and social sciences as well as to the connection of sciences and practice. On this basis theories, models and empirical data can be combined and united to improve the understanding of landscape, and a sustainable landscape management becomes possible.
The young "IALE-regional group Germany" was founded in 1999 in Basel and still looks for engaged members, ideas and load-carrying structures.
IALE provides an infrastructure as a world wide organization of landscape ecologists, which serves as a discussion platform and stimulates interaction across the disciplines. IALE will create an infrastructure to make it easy for landscape ecologists to contact each other and to know about current developments in landscape ecology around the world. To achieve its aims, IALE has an active executive committee, a Webpage and a Bulletin. IALE organizes a world congress every 4 years and regional conferences. IALE has many active chapters around the world and maintains several Working groups.
